Every year, our fourth grade team puts on an awesome Indiana-focused night called Hoosier Hysteria. Each fourth grader is assigned a famous hoosier. They research and prepare speeches and presentation posters. They dress up in character and as guests drop of tickets in their themed ticket boxes, the “characters” come alive and share their speeches.
In Art, to support this event, we review some graphic design concepts before they start working on their presentation posters. We talk about layout, font, what to include, purpose of poster and so on.
We also work with the students to draw a realistic portrait (line only) of their famous hoosier. The background is later filled with biographical symbols that represent the subject.
Be on the look out for examples as we finish!
