Keepin’ it Cool with Color in Second Grade

Second graders reviewed the color wheel (primary and secondary colors), then were introduced to warm and cool colors.  They talked about and saw how warm colors look like they are popping out, while cool colors seem to drop back in a work of art.  Students told me the warm colors remind them of the hot sun and the cool colors remind them of ice, water and thirst quenching grape Kool-Aid!  In groups, they are making collages of warm and cool colors to prove they know them, and to get more practice identifying them.  Next, we’ll me working on landscapes that use these colors.  Be on the look out!
