First Grade Experiments with Value

After learning that tints are lighter colors and shades are darker colors, first graders got to experiment with many art media to find out how artists actually make these colors in their artworks.  We used pencil, colored pencil, oil pastel, crayon, watercolor paint and tempera paint to make a tint and a shade.  To see what we learned, we filled out this chart.  Do you know the answers?

How Do They Do It?

Directions: Fill in the chart telling how you made tints and shades with each art media.
