I just started a multicultural masks lesson with first grade. They enjoyed seeing the variety of masks from a few different cultures. First, we talked about how masks have been important through history in many cultures and how they are used for so many different things. As we looked at some examples, students guessed if the masks were used to pretend, scare or hide. Then, the looked closer at a culture’s set of masks to point out characteristics they all had in common. At the end of class, we experimented with an interactive site I found online. They wanted me to post the link so here it is!
